We will never use your information for a purpose you wouldn’t reasonably expect, and we won’t collect more than we need.

3. The legal basis for processing

Under POPIA, we process your information because:

  • It’s necessary to fulfil our contract with you (e.g. processing your order)
  • You’ve given consent (e.g. signing up for marketing emails)
  • We have a legitimate interest (e.g. improving our service, preventing fraud)
  • We’re legally required to (e.g. keeping tax records)

4. Who we share it with
We don’t sell your personal information. Ever. We do share it with trusted partners who help us run the business.

Every partner we work with is required to protect your information and use it only for the purpose we’ve engaged them for.
We may also disclose information if legally required, for example, in response to a court order or to comply with the law.

5. Where your information is stored
Your information is stored on secure servers. Some of our service providers (like email or analytics platforms) may process data outside South Africa. Where this happens, we ensure those providers offer an adequate level of protection in line with POPIA’s cross-border transfer requirements.

We use: Essential cookies, needed for the site and checkout to function
Analytics cookies, to understand how visitors use our site (e.g. Google Analytics)
Marketing cookies, to show you relevant content (only if enabled)

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Note that disabling essential cookies may stop parts of the site (like checkout) from working.

We keep your information only as long as we need it:

Order and transaction records: [5 years: required for SARS/tax compliance]
Marketing data: Until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it

Secure (SSL) encryption across the site
Secure, access-controlled storage
Working only with PCI-DSS compliant payment providers
Limiting staff access to personal information

No system is ever 100% secure, but we take protecting your data seriously and review our practices regularly.

Returns Policy

We want you to love your set. If something’s not right, we’ll make it right. Here’s exactly how it works, no tiny print, no runaround.

The Short Version
You have 30 days from delivery to return an unused set for a full refund
Sets must be unopened and in original packaging to qualify for a refund
Damaged or faulty on arrival? We’ll replace it or refund it, your choice
Refunds are processed within 7 working days of us receiving the returned item
The Full Version
When you can return a set:

The set arrived damaged, faulty, or with missing tiles
You’ve changed your mind within 30 days of delivery (set must be unused and in original packaging)
You received the wrong product
When you can’t return a set:

More than 30 days have passed since delivery
The set has been opened, used, or the packaging is damaged (unless the set itself is faulty)
Items marked as “Final Sale” or sold at clearance discount
How to start a return:

Email us at [returns@mahjongcollective.co.za] within 30 days of delivery
Include your order number, the reason for return, and photos if the item is damaged
We’ll confirm your return and send instructions within 2 working days
Ship the item back using the instructions provided (see “Who pays for return shipping?” below)
Who pays for return shipping?

Faulty, damaged or incorrect items: We cover return shipping.
Change of mind: Return shipping is on you. We recommend using a tracked service, because we can’t refund something that doesn’t arrive.
Refund timeline:

Once we receive and inspect your return, we’ll email to confirm
Refunds are processed within 7 working days to your original payment method
Bank processing can take an additional 3-5 days depending on your bank
Exchanges: Want a different set instead of a refund? Just say so when you email us and we’ll swap it out and only charge the difference (or refund the difference).

Your rights under the Consumer Protection Act
Nothing in this policy affects your rights under South African consumer law. The Consumer Protection Act gives you specific protections for faulty or misrepresented goods, and those always apply, regardless of what this page says.
